POTATO GROWERS AND POTATO EATERS LUNCH, WAPKE FEENSTRA (MYVILLAGES)

For Cappadox, Wapke Feenstra (Myvillages) will present photo banners and, in cooperation with the Women’s Cooperative of Uçhisar, she will also organize a communal meal gathering. The artist, accompanied by a researcher from the region, will visit the families in their farms, fields, and kitchens and invite them to participate in the project. She will listen to their stories and document these stories through photographs and audio recordings. Wapke will also collect the recipes of the families’ favourite potato meals  which will be shared through a recipe booklet later in 2024.

Through this project, Wapke Feenstra will deepen her knowledge and research about the contemporary and traditional practices
of potato growers in Cappadocia. She will tackle the stories of migration, industrialisation, land-use and globalisation, along with the daily practices and family histories of potato growers in Cappadocia, Turkey, to highlight local knowledge and translocal connections on food production.
